My 30 Days of Reinvention Starts Today
Day 0 – Prep Day
Happy Labor Day!
During this long weekend, I’ve been reflecting on my life over the past year, and am marveling at the changes that have taken place. Here’s my story – you may want to get a Sprite or something while you read it.
This time last year I was feeling like something was off, yet I wasn’t sure what to do about it; things were good overall, yet San Francisco and I had both changed, and I was at a loss as to what to do about that.
I’d been in San Francisco for 33 years, and my rent-controlled apartment in Potrero Hill for 17 of those. Rent control is a big deal in San Francisco, and those of us with rent control felt both lucky and trapped: lucky because we paid below market rate for rent, and trapped because if we moved out of our place, rent would go up – a lot.
So I started writing about what to do to feel more aligned with myself, and on August 27, 2023, this appeared:
What if, in the next 6 weeks, I set things up so I never need to worry about myself or my money ever again? I’m taken care of by me!
A few weeks later someone knocked at the door; it was a lawyer representing the owners of the 2-unit building I lived in. He said the owners were selling the building, and they wanted to make me a buyout offer – which meant paying me to vacate the apartment – so they could sell the building empty (the other apartment was already vacant).
I was shocked, of course, and also wondered if this was the answer I’d been seeking about what to do next. I soul searched, talked to friends and family, wrote, daydreamed, and ultimately decided to take the buyout + leave San Francisco. Thinking about where to live next, Denver felt right, so on December 27, 2023, I moved.
That’s 4 months from wondering “What if” to having a different life.
I’ve reinvented myself many times, both personally and professionally, but I didn’t see this one coming – and yet it’s turned out to be exactly what I needed. I’m in shock over how fast it happened, and while I’m still getting used to living in a new city, my instinct to move was spot on.
Now that I’m here, I realize it’s time for another reinvention, one that allows my new future to catch up to me. To facilitate this, I’ve decided to work through a course I created last year called 30 Days of Reinvention. Each day for the next 30 days I’ll work through the course as a participant, sharing what I learn about reinventing myself, my life, and my business.
I invite you to join me, and do the 30 Days of Reinvention in real time together this month. The course is free, fun and easy to use, and we can chat inside the course about what it’s bring up for each of us. I’m excited – and a bit wondering – about what will come out of this, and yet I know it’s the nudge I need to discover my next steps. Maybe it’s the nudge you’re looking for, too.
xx
