How Do You Get Stuff Done?
Maybe you’re good at making a list and checking off the boxes. Or maybe you’re good at making a list, then losing or ignoring it. Or just maybe you think about making a list, then forget what you were doing and wander off into the kitchen to get a snack. Then there are the times when you just can’t even think about it, because you’re having one of those days.
No matter how you’re wired, if you work for yourself, you need to get stuff done.
Even if you’re fortunate enough to have great help and delegation skills, there are still things that can only be done by you in your business.
So how, exactly, can you get those things done?
Here are a few thoughts on how you can get done what needs to be done, no matter how you’re feeling that day, and make headway on the secrets of small business success for you.
Remember What’s Important
Make sure the actions you’re taking make sense and feed into your larger why. Don’t confuse being busy with being productive, and only do those things that truly contribute to your business and clients.
Prioritize Money-Making Tasks
There are plenty of things you can do as a business owner, yet not all of them will make you money. Look at the things you’re considering doing, and put those things that are closest to the money first.
Work in Chunks
Batching your tasks helps create a mindset of getting things done. Set aside a dedicated amount of time (30 minutes, 2 hours, etc.) and focus on one type of work. This will help you be productive without it feeling too burdensome.
Distill Things Down
Filter out all the busy work, and tune into what you’re really trying to accomplish. Distill your work down to its most bottom line; from this place, what actions truly make the most sense? Do those.
Remember You’re Human
Above and beyond everything, remember you’re human! If you need help, ask for it. If you need time off, take it. No one is expecting you to do everything right this minute. Breathe, do what you need to do, and have faith that things will unfold just right.
The steps to make business successful for you are all here: by remembering to check in with yourself about these facets, you’ll get plenty of stuff done in no time – and feeling good about it!
