=KRISTINE CAREY ~ CATALYST=
Welcome to 2013 and the rest of your life! That seems like a lot of pressure to me, and you can read more on that below. Right now I admit to being slow about getting my head back into the game; my family gave us kids a rare treat this year and we spent a week cruising through the Caribbean for Christmas. Where ever you find yourself, literally or otherwise, I hope you are enjoying life.
==Welcome to 2013 and the Rest of Your Life or The First Full Working Week of January==
I love the end of the year. It seems fun and refreshing to see the calendar turn and a bright and shiny new year begin, as if an entire year magically appeared in the space of a day. What I don’t love is all the pressure that potentially comes with this calendar magic.
Recently there have been a slew of articles about how to set and achieve New Year’s resolutions, as well as articles about how this is a waste of time. I’ve talked to coaches, colleagues, clients and all manner of folk about their opinions on this and they are as mixed as the articles. Where does that leave you?
As you saw in my last full newsletter, I prefer to set themes (you can read that here (https://kristinecarey.com/set-yourself-up-for-success-in-15-minutes/) ). I like the gentle reminder of what direction I’ve chosen to head this year. My colleague Jenna Avery skips all of the tactics and has opted for tiny steps done repeatedly (you can read her post here (http://jennaavery.com/why-im-not-interested-in-resolutions-or-themes-or-chains) ). These small steps are in fact how anything ever gets done on a lasting basis, themes, resolutions or whatnot aside.
In all fairness, when you woke up January 1st you were still you, with the same hopes and dreams and fears as you had the night before. The calendar magic is all in your head, and you can use it as a motivator or beat yourself up.
Welcome to the first full working week of 2013 – may you be energized to be yourself and have the courage to take the small steps toward the rest of your life. Hit reply and let me hear your thoughts!
