How to Make Sure You Have the Right Clients

how to make sure you have the right clients

There’s so much fuss over having clients, it’s easy to overlook an obvious question:

Do you have the right clients?

Taking good care of your clients means picking the right clients to start with. You can’t take care of everyone, nor do you want to.

So who do you *really* want to work with?

You know how it is – there are those you look forward to talking to, and others, well, not so much.

Imagine every day filled with your ideal peeps, the ones you think to yourself, “They pay me to work with them!”

You want more of those folks.

It’s time to say good bye to the good-enoughs, so you can say hello to the hell yeses.

If you have the right clients, it’s much easier to take care of them… and you and they will be all the happier for it.

Take a look at the people you’re working with currently, as well as the ones you’ve worked with over the past several years, and answer these questions.

  • Who are the people you happily give your all to?
  • Who are the ones you look forward to talking with?
  • Which projects energized you the most – was that because of the work, the client, or both?
  • When you picture your perfect client, what characteristics show up? It could be things like smart, engaged, pay on time, value your service, easy to work with… list out the characteristics that your perfect client embodies.

Imagine working with this person, and how wonderful it is. Pretty stunning, isn’t it?!
