How To Find Freedom and Ease

How to Find Freedom and Ease

I recently received an email that had this note in the signature:

Here at Company X, we value and encourage flexible working and celebrate Summer Fridays (half days on Fridays between June 2nd- September 1st). My workday may look different from your workday. Please do not feel obligated to respond outside of your normal working hours. Otherwise, I will respond to your email as soon as I can. Thank you!

I fell in love with this as soon as I saw it. People at Company X have the flexibility to work in a way that suits them best, and they’re setting expectations for how people can best interact with them. In my mind, this is what freedom and ease are all about.

As the commander of your own ship, you have the freedom to work when and how you want.

This is part of what makes work easy. If you catch yourself thinking you’re supposed to work a certain way, or at a certain time, pause, breathe, and ask yourself what you really want.

Remember your ideal ingredients and let them be your guide to creating an August full of the freedom and ease you crave.

As you go about your week, find freedom and ease by asking yourself:

  • Does the way you’re currently working feel free and easy?
  • What do you need to change or upgrade for freedom and ease to be your new normal? Leave all the shoulds, supposed tos, and I’ll be a bad person ifs behind.
  • What permission do you need to give yourself to start working this way?
